Stormy Weather

It is definitely summer time in the South. For the past few days, ever late afternoon, ominous dark clouds roll in. Some times it lets a little rain fall for an hour, then vanishes... other times huge torrential storms take over the area and hit you upside the head with their force. The photo above is from my neighborhood last week. I love panorama sky shots, they look so awesome! Those clouds barely gave us any rain until way later that evening even though they looked threatening.

Saturday was my first day back at work after being sick and it was a long day. I grew tired pretty easily and even though we were steady we luckily we weren't swamped. It was a hot, humid and sunny day until late afternoon some grey clouds began to move in. I told my coworker to check the view outside (since the circulation desk doesn't have windows close by like reference does) once they started to get dark. We knew a storm was coming for sure. Fifteen minutes later she came and got me, telling me to go look out the front door. If we thought the sky was dark before, it was BLACK now....

With the sun shining still over us it was a very haunting view to see straight black clouds in the sky barreling straight towards you! At around 5:30 the thunder started ripping through the sky, lightening began making our power flicker, and rain started pounding down so hard we could barely see outside. Pine tree branches were falling all around the pavilion and the grass around the side of the building disappeared under water. It barely let up around closing and we felt terrible having to have people leave to go out in it, but our managers said we essentially didn't have a choice.

We were a bit behind in closing with all that chaos but as we hurried to lock up I almost fell over as soon as I entered our program's office. It was literally raining in the office. I could hear it and as I glanced up I saw a ceiling tile fall to the floor, which had a huge puddle blooming across it, with a SPLAT.

Oh. Crap.

My coworker and I ran to get plastic to try and protect the books (mostly children's books for story times and summer reading) and move things out of the way as quickly as we could. At one point the plastic gathered a bunch of water and poured on to my head soaking me completely! Yea, we laughed about it. I am a decent height, about 5'7'', but my coworker is all of maybe 5'3'' and the two of us trying to drape plastic over eight feet of shelving was pretty comical in itself.

We used soda cans to try and support the plastic and did our best to clean up, staying nearly an hour after we closed.

Needless to say it was a mess! Naturally as soon as we stepped outside to go to our cars it had stopped raining completely. There was even some blue sky off in the distance. You can't even make this stuff up! UGH. It drizzled a little on my way home but at my house it was bone dry. It hadn't even rained there yet! We had a huge storm about ten miles from my house with all this damage and nothing at home. Sigh. I could hear thunder and see lightening as we got dinner ready, but when it did rain (hours later) it was nothing like on base.

Southern Summer Weather has officially begun!

Wishful Wednesdays

See... this is why I have a prompt! A week of no posts and now I am back!

This week I wish...

Both our families lived closer. I enjoyed visiting the inlaws in SC and I am missing my own parents too!

That groceries were not so pricey. Gah. Same goes for gas.

That tonight at rehearsal everyone is on top of things. It is scary to take four days off with less than two weeks before the show!!!

The show goes well. Crunch time ya'll!

Super Ty still gets his miracle. Please pray for them.

To go to a Renn Fest. Man I miss those... NC you are letting me down there! Maryland had a killer one!

To go apple and pumpkin picking.

I lived close enough to Disney to still work there. It is Food and Wine Fest time in EPCOT and the pictures on Facebook are killing me.

My blog had more going on. It is lovely that google is bringing people based on my Dos and Donts for a Marine Corps Ball entry, it is getting to be that time of year! I am glad it helps people though.

And last but not least...

I wish the beautiful weather would hang around. I can do 70s and sunny!

Big or small, silly or serious.... What are you wishing for this week??

Catch Up and Cupcakes

Those little beauties arrived at the office today as a gift from corporate for Administrative Professionals Day! We also got some chocolate on chocolate ones to go with the red velvet. Sweet. I looooove red velvet cupcakes!

Easter was nice, sadly I forgot my camera so I have ZERO pictures from our first married Easter. Sigh.

It took us six hours to drive up to NJ, when it should have only taken three and a half! When you and your husband spend that much time in the car, you learn things. Like my husband knows all the words to Love Shack. I mean, every single word. I was slightly impressed and intimidated all at once!!

Saturday Ryan took my brother for a rousing five mile run while my best friend Sam and I had girl time at the hair salon and lunch. I got some subtle highlights for spring and summer, the last time I got them was a week before my wedding! They've lasted that long with no problem so maybe I can get them again at this time next year. :P

We went to mass Saturday night after a big turkey dinner care of my Dad. Sunday we did our traditional Easter basket hunt. My family makes you work for your basket! We wake up with an egg, and in that egg is a clue. That clue leads you to your next egg and another clue and so on until you find your basket. Instead of three separate hunts this year my dad the Easter Bunny had Stefan, Ryan and I work together. Our eggs were very difficult to find, including in our pool liner, a hollow tree, Stefan's rabbit cage, and the mailbox of the farm store down the street before we found them in my Dad's trunk. Whew. I got Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows on DVD, some black licorice jelly beans, chocolate, and other little fun goodies.

Easter Dinner was at my Babci's and Poppy's with the family, most of whom were surprised we were there. Ryan and I also walked over to my brothers' house since it is so close to my grandparents now. I loved being able to see my family and stuff myself with Polish food!

Monday my mom was off so she and Ryan and I had a long talk out on the deck before we went and got my brother from school and went for a late lunch. After that it was rush hour so we went to the park to hang out. I watched Ryan and Stefan act like kids, climbing trees and kicking the soccer ball around... it was cute (:

Around 7:30 we at last packed up the car and made our way back to VA. My parents are moving from NJ to NC this summer, and I know my visits to my childhood home are numbered. I definitely cried from my house to the highway, and Ryan just passed me a tissue and told me some jokes to calm me down a little (:

We played word games in the car like the alphabet category game. Our first category was fruits/flowers. I did A for Apple, Ryan did B for Banana, I did C for cornflowers etc. Then at the end of the alphabet we swtiched letters so he was A I was B... we did fruits/flowers, Cities with their States, Cars and Colors, and Boy/Girl names. Man I love my husband!

I cannot believe Sunday will be our first wedding anniversary! What was I doing at this time last year? April 27, 2010... apparently I was making goody bags for out of town guests, baskets for the bathrooms, and doing my Wedding Weather Updates! At this point it was saying there was a chance of thunderstorms and it would be 85! Luckily it was a beautiful day, sunny and upper 70s, but I was panicking then!

I ordered Ryan's present yesterday so I am hoping it gets here in time! We both went traditional and got 'paper' presents. In case Mr. Snoopy comes on here I won't post what I got him yet, but I'll tell you all Monday!

We have the top of our wedding cake in the freezer... I have some more planning to do, but stay tuned!

PS - We're still pending, just in case you thought I may be holding out on you!

Happy

Can I just say, I am so happy!

Literally this weekend I had this bubble in my chest that resulted in random giggling abd big smiles and me smacking my husband's arm in pure excitement. Yes, I am a dork.

We're in such a good place right now. Even with Ryan's re-enlistment still pending, we're happy. The weather is starting to get warmer too, which makes everything better! Saturday we went to get my car back from the shop after getting the body work done from my car accident this past fall. But... my car was making a funny noise. It was running really rough and I got nervous! I needed my car back to get to work and to get to the doctor Tuesday! The only engine thing they did was an oil change so we got the body shop to refun the oil change and drove to Jiffy Lube. Anytime we stopped and idled we threw the car in neutral. My bubble began to get a little deflated, what was wrong with my car? Wrong oil?? Something?

We finally get to Jiffy Lube, the guy Sal looks at it for two seconds and sees my PCV valve got knocked off. The person changing my oil last must have done it. He gave us a new hose, for free, and put it on for us. Ryan slipped him $10 for being so awesome and my bubble re-inflated fully!

After we tried to make it to the Old Town Saint Patrick's Day parade but we're too late. So we settled in at an Irish pub with this super sweet woman who actually works at Walter Reed as a psychotherapist and was willing to share the table! She was so sweet and we had a great conversation. After Ryan and I walked to the Torpedo Factory and walked around for a bit. At home we had a quick dinner and then went to my favorite bar, Nick's. Nick's is a country bar, they offer free line dancing lessons if you get there early enough (some day we will!) and usually have live music.

I couldn't really drink since I was still on antibiotics from surgery but Ryan and I had a blast. He forced me to do kareoke (NEVER. AGAIN.) and we sang Picture by Kid Rock and Sheryl Crow. Oy. Then I made him dance with me. Nick's has a lot of people, old and young, and sometimes watching the older couples on the dance floor is so intimidating. They know what dance to do with EVERY song! Man I need to learn!

Sunday was pouring rain but we ventured out to church, then IHOP, and then to grocery shop. Man was it raining cats and dogs, but we trudged through. After we went to the mall to get me to Nordstroms. Their bras were highly recommended to me by Sarah to go for a fitting, pricey yes, but worth it.

Standing in the dressing room I was pretty nervous. The woman had me take even my surgical bra off to get fitted and I was worried I was going to freak her out with my stitches (I have a lot!). But she was wonderful. She measured me and gave me bras to try on.

And I cried.

I stood in the dressing room looking at myself in a three way mirror with tears rolling down my cheeks.

I was wearing a 36C for the first time since I was 14 years old.

Yes, tears of joy!

I tried on a few pretty bras that Ryan had me get (the fitter had me show him since I was so excited) and I cannot wait to hit the six week mark so I can wear them.

I am happy.

I am healing. My back doesn't hurt. I am standing up straight.

I have a wonderful husband I love more than anything. We are close to our one year anniversary!

My car is fine and back in business! No more climbing over the console from the passenger side to get in the car.

It is getting warmer.

Work is good.

I love where we live.

I am so happy.

The Most UnFriday Friday Ever

It was 75 degrees today. Sunny. Gorgeous. I went outside for lunch and that is about it sadly. Today was so hectic at work. The phones were exploding, packages came like crazy, tours were in, invoices had to be mailed, mail had to get scanned, cookies baked (we do it every Friday), and it was just nuts. Ugh. I ended up being at work late only to come home and have Ryan gone since he has duty. What does my Friday night entail you ask? Waiting around for Comcast! Ryan tried to install the box but no dice. We called three times, waited on hold for ages, and now someone has to come out to the house to actually do it. So hooray Friday night for me!

Sigh.

At least I ordered Ryan his birthday cake for Monday. For being so not into birthdays he was awfully picky about his cake! :P Haha. I am glad to do something, anything for him! We will hopefully go to the shooting range tomorrow as per his request. Boys.

Now onto my Friday Fun...

Join in over at Wife of a Sailor

1. What is your favorite MilSpouse blog (not including Wife of a Sailor who we all love, or your own)?

Oh geeze. Look at the page on the top of my blog that says Blogs I Love. That should answer your question. I read tons of them!!!!

2. What are your favorite perks about your s/o being deployed (we all know there are perks)?

Long phone calls. When we're together a phone call consists of "Are you home? Oh, ok. On your way can you get insert random thing here?" It is great to have those long talks where your phone grows hot against your cheek. Sure in person is better, but this is special in a different way. I guess the only other one that comes to mind is not having to fight over what is on tv.

3. How long did you date your before getting engaged? Married?

We met in March of 2008. We started dating May 8, 2008. We got engaged December 10, 2009 and then married on May 1, 2010... almost two years to the day (a week short!) of our first date.

4. What do you think your would do if s/he wasn’t in the military?

He would be in the FBI, CIA, or some type of Law Enforcement or security. Sensing a theme here?

5. If you could talk to the Secretary of the Marines what is one suggestion you would like to bring to their attention in order to improve the lives of military families?

Communication. I know there is only so much you can tell us about certain things but by golly I feel like sometimes you are keeping information that does not need to be kept for security purposes but just to dangle the piece of cheese in front of the mouse! Also, I noticed spouse programs are becoming more regular, but it would be nice if some of them could be not during the day so if you do happen to have a job you can still attend and meet people!

And don't forget to join the round up over at The Whole Famdamily.

This week's theme is LOVE:
I don't have photoshop but I used Piknic to play around with these a little bit...

This is the one I am submitting, that was the hardest hug of my life thus far.

And this was from our first ball and for fun,. I just thought it was cute that you can see it even back then. And he was totally singing to me.... just like he did during the first dance at our wedding. (:

8 Days!!!

A week from today is the rehearsal dinner! A week from tomorrow, the wedding! Holy cannoli! Right now I should be am going through my clothes to load up the cars to drive with mom to the apartment tomorrow. I am excited for her to see our place in person versus pictures. It was my last day at the pharmacy today and I have to admit it was a little said saying goodbye. It went from boring to crazy to just all over the place working there sometimes, but everyone grew on me! They even gave me this gorgeous 2 window frame, one with a place for our invite, the other for a picture from our wedding day. I had been eyeing those a lot so it was an awesome coincidence.

Mom and I are running all over the place trying to get everything done! We still have to do the bathroom baskets, make the place cards, and a lot of other small things. At least it is just good, last minute stuff, not crazy big bad things.

The doctors office called back today, blood work all normal. Surprise? Not at all.

Mom and I have to run to Macy*s tonight and then she made us reservations at our restaurant. McCormick & Schmick's Seafood has always been our "fancy" favorite restaurant. It has amazing seafood and since my brother and dad are in DC with boyscouts we are going out! It is also my parents' sixteenth anniversary today, so Happy 16th Mom and Dad!!! Celebrate it well on Monday when you're in the same state!

Wedding Weather Update

Yesterday and this morning it said 30% chance of rain but that has gone away! Keep your fingers crossed for me please!!!

Snowed In?

I am going to DC tomorrow morning.... will I be snowed in? Ryan and I have some Marine Corps marriage counseling thing (I am a bad fiance I don't even know, I just know I am seeing him!!!) and Snowpocalypse Take 2 is happening. My not even 48 hour trip isn't turning out like I thought it would.

My parents won't let me drive so they got me a train ticket. The metro isn't running above ground so I am stuck basically. I will get in at 10:42am and Ryan will be working until 4:30pm probably. And most likely have snow duty at night.

Ugh.

After this we won't see one another until the 19th so I am trying to make the most of it, but it seems like everything wants to work against us. Including the weather.

I am so sick of snow.

COLD!

Who decided my last week in Florida would be absolutely freezing? Can I write a formal complaint to Mother Nature??? I mean, I think it is different being cold here. When it is cold in January in New Jersey or DC you expect it. That's how it should be. But in Central Florida? No way. It is a damp, terrible cold. We've been in the upper 30s in the day and upper 20s at night. It is crazy. Little girls are wearing jeans under their princess dresses with huge winter coats and hats over them! People are wearing the layers they wore to the airport in the parks because it is so damn cold.

It won't warm up again until next week. When I am gone. Fail.

The warmest day this week will be my last day in Florida. And it is supposed to rain. Joy.

The parking lot in Chatham, my apartment complex, is empty. Most people moved out and the new people aren't moved in yet. Chloe is gone, Amanda is almost gone, Kayla and I are all that are left in good ol' 29302.

Tomorrow is my last day of work. I cannot believe how quickly this has come. It seems like I just got here and I am getting ready to leave. Of course I haven't started packing yet!

Went back to the doctor this morning, last time here. I got my file to take with me as they haven't helped me much. I take six pills a day and I am still sick! I know now also that it is not celiac's disease, an ulcer, hernia, cancer, and my gallbladder appears to be functioning. Ugh. This is so frustrating.

I cannot wait to see Ryan this Saturday. Then I have to find a job in NJ as no one has gotten back to me. Eek!

Back in NJ

Whew. I am officially no longer in the DC area :( I miss it already! I mean I love being home with my family, but I love DC and I miss being there. This picture was taken last week when Cat and I went down to the mall to just hang out. We went to the two Sculpture Gardens and played travel Scabble as we watched the summer kickball and softball leagues play on the mall. Then I mentioned in my last entry Cat and I climbed (er, took the elevator) up the Washington Monument on Tuesday so I feel like I've seen the National Mall at all angles! I was there during President Obama's Inagural Concert and for Inaguration (in freezing cold weather from 5am-3pm!), for protests, to hang out with friends, to watch them film movies, to celebrate my 19th birthday... I have so many good memories over the last for years in this one place alone in DC I can't believe I can't just hop on the metro anymore and be there in like half an hour. I am about four hours away now! It feels so weird. Sometimes when I am away from DC I feel like my whole life there doesn't exist, and vice versa. In DC home in NJ seemed so far away. It's strange.

Anyway. Friday my dad was at my apartment around 7:30am. I was up until 3am cleaning and packing my car, so it was not a good wake up call! We packed up the van and we were out of there by about 9am. We stopped for lunch at my rest stop, the Maryland House on 95, and I was home by 1pm. Driving through Philidelphia I saw about six Marine Corps billboards and every single one made me think of Ryan and how much I love him and how proud of him I am. I got a tiny bit teary around the fourth one and fell driving behind my dad and sneaked a cigarette so I could keep going! So we got home and Mom helped us unload the car and then we just hung out for a bit. My Babci (grandmother) sent me a shoebox of pictures she found so my mom and I went through them and then I napped for an hour. We had a huge thunderstorm system thing move in during my nap, so it went from sunny and hot to torrential downpour!

Mom and I decided to drive and see Babci and Poppy since she got released from the hospital today. We stopped at a park near their house since my Mom wanted to smoke with me, it was funny. It was the park she and George (my biological father/asshole of a guy) took their wedding photos in, which was weird to be back there. But we went and had dinner with my grandparents. My Babci's sister, my Aunt Ceil, made pasta with meat sauce, zucchini quiche, and chocolate cake that also strangely enough had zucchini in it! I don't like zucchini, but this was all reeeeeeally good!!! We visited for a few hours and I napped again for an hour in the back room with my Poppy, side by side in our arm chairs! It was apparently a funny sight. Then we drove home.

Today I got up, went shopping with Mom, picked up my dad and brother after they kayaaked the river nearby, and then came home to talk to Ryan! I got about an hour online with him (: After he left I got ready and we went to Church. I don't know what started it, but as we were getting there I got really upset with my dad. I think it started in the car. I mentioned Ryan was talking about the Health Care plans on the news and all and my mom said she doesn't like the idea of the government paying for abortions which I don't care for either personally, but she went on to say something about not just abortion, but euthanasia and birth control. That threw me. I was like, "Wait a second, why is Birth Control up there with abortion and euthanasia??" And she started talking about the Catholic thing and I said I knew she used to take it, she knows I do... and she said stuff about absitnence etc. I said, "Yea, I am sure everyone in our church is doing that mom. If they were we'd all be in families of 18 like that Duggar reality tv show. I'm sorry if I feel like at 21 I don't feel ready to bring a child into the world so excuse me for using Birth Control." To which Stefan, my 12 year old brother, pipes up "What's birth control?"

Oops.

Well we averted that by ignoring it in the heat of our argument and we were almost at church when my mom mentioned my icky neighbor across the street came over today to deliver our mail she got by mistake. She was my former algebra teacher and a rip roaring bitch. This is where I got uspet. Dad started teasing me sort of about her son Matt, the creepy kid who is her son. He sort of had a crush on me way back when and was a bit older than me and he was just Weird with a capital W. So Dad was like, "Hey maybe Matt talked her into it. You should give him a call, hang out." And I said no thanks I'm taken, kept walking. And he kept going. My Mom was like, "She is in a committed relationship Bill. Stop it." And my dad was like, "Yea but Ryan isn't here, he wouldn't know." I swear to God I've never felt any real bad feelings against my dad before, but for the first time in my life I wanted to hit him. I was telling him to stop but in that one I said it again with an edge in my voice I don't think I've ever used before. I started tuning him out as he was talking to my mom, "Yea you heard what your dad (aka my poppy (grandfather) said)..." and went on to say something about some Sgt who cheated when he was stationed elsewhere so I am not the only one to worry about etc. I honestly felt tears in my eyes and I turned to my mom and said, "Seriously, make him stop, now." And I guess she did. I didn't say a word to him until halfway through dinner later tonight. I was just so angry. My mom said he was just teasing me and trying to get a rise out of me, probably didnt even realize how upset I was, but it still hurt regardless.

Anyway. We went to dinner at this restaurant called Old Man Rafferty's, which was really nice. A glass of prosecco (Italian champagne) later I felt better and I started talking to my dad again without realizing it. We're past it now so I guess it is ok, I let it go. After dinner Mom and I went to Wegmans and did some grocery shopping, in the pouring rain of course. My friend Cat called to say hi and see how I was doing at home, I miss her! The picture over here was from a week or so ago when we went to Great Falls VA and hiked around for awhile. I love that park. It is about 15 minutes outside of DC and you'd never expect to find such awesome scenery so close to a city!!

Then Mom and I came home, worked on putting a care package or two together for Ryan (: and wrote some letters. Stefan leaves for camp bright and early tomorrow so she was writing him a card or two to have when he gets there. After that we went in the hot tub, smoked a bit, and just talked. My mom was telling me all about how she put my scrapbooks together for my college graduation present, just what the process was and how much work went into organizing it and how the lady that taught us how to scrap book helped her put it together. She is thinking of doing one for Stefan up until 8th grade for him and all his stuff... which would be cool.

Then I came upstairs, uploaded my pictures to facebook, which finally took! I had been trying for days and it kept failing but I got them up at last! Then I emailed Ryan. Now I am going to head to sleep... hopefully sleep in tomorrow! We might go visit Babci and Poppy for dinner but tomorrow is pretty open. Next weekend, Sunday the 9th, is their 62nd wedding anniversary. I can't believe it! 62 years....

I hope someday I can say it is my 62nd anniversary ;)

Totally worth waking up at 7:30am for...

I got a phone call at almost 7:30 am from Ryan's mom saying he was online and to sign on. I did and I got to talk to him on facebook for 15 minutes and I had an email waiting! He is training on base for awhile and told me about the weather. It is insanely hot, like when you open an oven door, all the time. And the sand is like fine powder and it gets everywhere. Apparently they changed up the teams again but he said his is still the best. He couldn't tell me who was where for security online, but I hope it's good! And he said I knew people on it. So fingers crossed.

7:42am Ryan
have a great day sweetie ill be thinking about you when i see the stars tonight

Hopefully I'll have at least one star to look at to think of him too.
