Getting Better!

I took a day or two off from the workout thing and maybe had some french fries and a snickers bar and I felt a lot better. My elbow was hurting until about this morning. Now it is a little stiff but definitely a LOT better. Friday was horrible, it hurt like hell! My friend Kristin (who is moving back to Chicago last week) and I planned to go to Mount Vernon (Washington's home) last week. We packed a picnic and get there, the whole 8 miles it is up the street from my house, and it was CROWDED.

We heard the people working there saying their busiest day is the 4th of July and this was worse! Apparently Glen Beck (with his rally on Saturday) told everyone who was in town early to go to Mount Vernon for the day. So it was packed!! We went to a nearby park for the picnic and then braved the line. We toured the property but skipped our scheduled mansion tour since it wasn't really going to work for us to wait in a huge line for over an hour! So Kristin gave me ten bucks and upped my ticket to a season pass so I can come back!

Today we went to the barracks and did laundry and I got back on the work out train. I did 50 minutes on the elliptical (4.25 miles!) and a small ab work out. My body was not thrilled but I pushed through it. We've been eating healthy too. Josh came over and we walked up to Bumblefish and had some sushi. It was delicious!

Ryan and I have started a new tradition. When I couldn't work out I agreed to walk with him at night. We walked down to Old Town and the waterfront and home, maybe three miles or so. It is romantic, we have wonderful talks, and we even saw fireworks on Saturday night! We just got back from our walk tonight. It is something we're going to try and definitely keep up.

Tomorrow we are going to King's Dominion and are pretty excited about it. We are also both dying for a cheeseburger and may get a McDouble and a small fry each and then walking it off in the park all day.

We'll see (:

Ow

My elbow hurts. I think I did something to it lifting weights.

For anyone who knows about these things... it is right above my elbow, the muscle that almost reaches the bone. I cannot totally bend it or straighten it. Any ideas??

I wrap it and ice it... but it isn't getting much better. If anything it is worse. And swollen.

I love doing things with my husband, I really do. But I am not able to do his workouts. I need some tailoring here!!!

Working Out....

So on Tuesday Ryan made a decision. He was looking for the remote and it was in his lap and he couldn't see it. Operation Work Out begins. We had some squash pasta that night for dinner that my mom had made, but I am not a big squash fan (it's a texture thing) so I was already feeling a little blah.

"Sweetie come on a run with me."
"No thank you.
"Aw c'mon. It'll be fun."
"Nope. I don't run."
"This will be the slowest I run! It has been so long you can keep up!"
"No way."
"Please? I love you!"

That is how I ended up in running shoes and shorts stretching outside of our apartment. So we start down the trail and I don't make it very far before I start walking. Longest half an hour of my life. I would run, then walk, then run and push, then run. Meanwhile Marine Husband runs ahead a ways, runs back and circles me, says something motivating, and runs forward again. Repeat process. He ran the whole time, probably a few miles. I almost saw my squash pasta again on multiple ocassions.

Ok maybe my home cooking had something to do with the 20lbs he has put on since we got married. But I only maybe put on five. If that. His lifestyle choices have added to the poundage... tossing back beers with the guys does not keep weight off! Anyway, he now thinks this is a bonding experience. We have a gym schedule.

I am in pain.

So much pain.

After the run from hell we do abs work on our hardwood living room floor. Joy.

Yesterday I meet Ryan at the barracks to go to the gym. We do chest and triceps. I cannot lift my arms today. My left elbow is swollen and hot, I cannot straighten or totally bend it. I have ice on it now. We do all sorts of torturous heavy lifting and my loving husband says,

"Ok a lap around the track."
"No. I ran yesterday."
"You need to do cardio too! Half a lap."
"No."
"Stop being a spoil sport. Just do half."

So that is how I end up running a quarter mile after a two hour work out.

Today my arms won't go above my head. My shin splints are already showing, giant bruises on my right shin... so hot. Wrapped that. Iced elbow.

Did I mention it is day three?

Somehow I get to the barracks during his chow time and we do a back and biceps work out. Add more pain to more parts of my body.

I am allowed to take a day off tomorrow since I have plans. Saturday he wants to swim. Shoot me now! I am in so much pain. I don't do pain well. At all. I am so weak. There is nothing like lifting the ten pound weights in high reps while giant Marines on either side of you are benching your body weight. It is so embarassing.

Oh, eating healthy too. Baked lemon pepper cod and rice last night.

I almost ripped the Snickers bar out of Ryan's Sgt's hand yesterday. I don't diet well.

Why is his life choice pulling me in? Because I "motivate him and make him want to do it." If I had the strength I would have thrown the dumbbell at his head.

Ok I am a little bit of a baby about this stuff, but I will bear it since I am not working. Once my full time job starts I'll do maybe three times a week. I am not doing this six days a week torture. Ugh.

He wants to kill me.

Our Schedule
Monday - Legs
Tuesday - Run/Cardio
Wednesday - Chest, Triceps
Thursday - Back, Biceps
Friday - Run/Cardio
Saturday - Swim
Sunday - Off

Pictures

This post will be a random assortment of pictures from my cellphone. I have been meaning to post them all week so I just sort of put them all together and will just write modified versions!

My friend Meghan (who I love for helping me get my job!) and I went out to dinner last week. Usually when we go out for dinner we go to DSW. It's a thing. These shoes were Michael Kors, originally $140 or so on sale for $85. I texted them jokingly to Ryan but he was working so never answered. They were high. I mean hiiiigh. A good friend of mine would have referred to them as "shit kickers". Of course when I get home Ryan asks me where the shoes are... I told him I couldn't afford them! His reply... "So? You could wear those to work, right?"

No.

These I really REALLY want. Size 9.5. My birthday is Sept 8th. :P I was never a fan of the booty style, but I tried these on and LOVE them. So much. Only $49!

I made this peach pie last night. The L is for our last name. But the peaches were so so juicy that the pie was falling apart! I should have used a bit more flour in the mix to bind it, but it was still good. Our chef neighbor Rigoberto came over and had some too and said it was good. We also had a bottle of my Dad's home made plum wine which was excellent, as always.

Now last week was the Family Fling at camp. Ryan said he would go. So I drive home to get him, get literally MORE than half way there and he texts me saying he has to work. Ugh. Thank you Marines. I know not to be pissed, it isn't his fault, but I had to turn around and drive back to camp. In rush hour. On the beltway. Alone. Ughx2. I left camp at 4, got back at 6:30, and went nowhere! Except the gas station. Anyway, sitting on traffic I see that little display of geniusness. A guy with his foot out the window and smoking and driving.

Now before anyone says anything about me taking a picture while driving, I didn't. I was at a dead stop when I took that picture. His lane was actually moving so he WAS driving and doing that. People.

Hope you enjoyed the random conglomeration.

Thank You Notes

I just wrote all of our thank you notes.

Yes I know it is a little late... but with camp and everything is was just too hard to sit and do them. I wanted to do it all at once, but never had the time! I wrote them all out, Ryan just needs to sign them. I am wondering how long this may take...! The envelopes are stamped, ready to be stuffed and sent. It only took me six hours.

I cannot feel my arm. From the elbow down....

Ugh!

I'm Done!!!

No more camp! No more commute from hell!!!!

Last night kind of sucked... but I am too exhausted to get into it now. Just had to share the joy of being done with camp. Not the story of why I was up until 3am and then overslept on my last day of work and for the first time all summer.

Bed now.

Tomorrow Ryan and I are driving to NJ to surprise my Poppy for his 88th birthday! Lots of family will be around, no one except my parents really know we're going to be there, so I am pretty excited.

Perhaps more later!

Two More Days

Just TWO more days and I will be done with camp.

Ugh.

Is it Saturday yet?!?!

What Is A Parade?

So a few people have asked me lately, what is a parade? Here is your answer! (Just to let you know my husband is not a marcher, he sets up the parades and dismantles them at the end of the evenings.)

In the summer Marine Barracks Washington (8th and I) puts on parades on Tuesday and Friday nights. Tuesday nights are slightly more informal, similar show but it is not at the Annex. Tuesdays are done up at the Iwo Jima Memorial near Arlington Cemetery. If you take the metro to Arlington they have free busses up to the memorial for the parade and back at the end but I've walked it as well. If you want to pay a ridiculous amount of money to park in the cemetery lot you can, but metro is the best way to go!

Most people have never even been to the Iwo Memorial, but it is gorgeous. You can see all of DC behind it too. Now as I said these are a little more informal. You sit on the grass and people bring blankets and lawn chairs. Guests of honor have their own folding chairs. It can get pretty warm so please make sure you have water and other appropriate hot weather necessities. They have water stations available for free public use, but if it is crowded they can get used up pretty quickly. The parade is always at sunset, as of right now I know it is 6:30pm. You can get there as early 5pm if you want to claim a good spot. Earlier in the summer the parade starts at 7pm.

Now I know I haven't answered your question yet, but I am getting there. Friday nights you usually need tickets, you can get them online at this site. They are available there, and free, but they can fill up sometimes! These start at 8:45pm.

Now on Fridays when you arrive each section has a Marine or two who knows a LOT about the Barracks and the Annex and the history of the Commadant... all sorts of good things. Try and stump them, it is fun.

Then the President's Own Band plays. They march and play a mix of modern music, marching songs, and patriotic tunes. On Tuesdays the band has the night off but the Commodant's Own Drum and Bugle Corps will play and be just as wonderful.

Then the Silent Drill Platoon comes out. SDP are awesome. They march in perfect time and throw their rifles high into the air. Every time I hold my breath hoping they don't drop them. I've seen it enough times that I have seen the poor guy they pick to do the solo routine drop it. Yikes. Ryan and I don't bet on it happening I swear. Extra PT for someone! These are the men you see on the commercials for the USMC, throwing their rifles from coast to coast. Their Color Guard is famous as well with hundreds of appearances across the country every year.

But it all is still very impressive in my opinion! I've seen at least four parades a summer since I met Ryan, and I still enjoy them. The official website puts it pretty well, "The evening parade has become a universal symbol of the professionalism, discipline, and Esprit de Corps of the United States Marines."

Ending formation... some of the time! This pose is a huge hit with the crowd, how they get to that point is pretty awesome to watch.

And since I went back in my laptop for these pictures you can get a peek at the ONE time I dyed my hair... red!

Ryan and I had broken up for a brief period and I wanted a change so I did some temporary dye. I liked it... but not many others did! My mom made me use dye away less than a month later for our family picture that was taken for our church.

Hope that answers some of your questions, if you are in the DC area in the summer time be sure to check it out!!!!

Last Week!

I am SO excited that it is the last week of camp!!!!! Part of me cannot believe it is week 9 already and the other part is wondering if it were possible for time to go any slower. Our numbers (of campers and counselors) are MUCH smaller this week. Luckily my two co-counselors are still here. The camp itself has had some counselors who work at other sites come down for the week to help us out since our numbers were too low. Imagine after two months with the same people having this weird cluster of people who worked together that amount of time too thrown in with you! It is a bit strange. Well as for kids, tribes had only seven kids or combined to form a normal size, but not Cherokee. Oh no. We have 16. Did I mention 15 boys and ONE GIRL?? How do some tribes have eight, nine, or ten girls... and we have one?!?!

Plus we have 5 LTS! (Reminder: LT = Life Threatening, meaning a kid with a life threatening food allerguy...) So we have five bright red fanny packs between the three of us which carries each child's Epi-Pen. Carmen, Kaego and I are rocking it. Yahhoooo....

Today we had three campers out, including 2 LTs and our only girl! So we had thirteen six year old boys running around like crazy all day. Oye vey. My feet hurt so badly when I got in the car to do my hour drive home. And it is so hot and humid.

Is it Friday yet???

No. Saturday! Friday means working OT (over time, the kids who stay after camp) then working til 9pm to help with site breakdown. It's paid, what the heck. Hubby has a parade anyway and won't be home til outrageously late. So I need my weekend! And three weeks off before my next job starts.

It helps knowing my paycheck will be three times bigger next month. Man oh man it helps!!!!

Busch Gardens and 95N

Side Note: I figured out the button thing, there is now a link on the right sidebar. Please feel free to add mine! I got a tab at the top and added some buttons of the blogs I follow, but if I missed yours please let me know.

So this weekend was pretty great but there were some long moments! Ryan and I planned to head to Busch Gardens to meet an awesome blogger I am sure you all know... Nicole from Flip Flops and Combat Boots and her husband Danny.

Friday Ryan had a parade so I picked him up after I had dinner with my fellow camp counselors and we headed off to sleep. I managed to drag him out of bed in the morning and get us into the car by 10am. We start driving on 95 and make it twenty minutes and stop. Then slowly go. Then stop. Repeat pattern for four more hours and that was our drive. We did a morale stop at Sonic and then gave up on 95 after awhile and went around to another highway that added miles perhaps but saved time!!

We get to Busch Gardens around 3pm... five hours after we leave! It took us an hour to go in from the back back back parking lot, through the ticket lines, the turnstyle, and into the park. Nicole texted me saying she was on Alpengeist, a great rollercoaster, so we got in line and met at the exit.

I felt awful it took us so long to get there! By the time we arrived they had gone on all the rides more than once! But we went on a few more rides together and hung out before Nicole and Danny headed out for dinner.

Photo by Nicole, I haven't uploaded mine yet!

Ryan and I stayed, wanting to endorse my love of fireworks and the fact that we drove so long we had to stay til the park closed at least! We had a good dinner in "New France" (aka Canada) of a whole assortment and ribs and yummy things like fried pickles. The fireworks were pretty good, not like Disney, only 8 minutes long! But I still love them. We tried to get on the sky ride to see them all in the air, but literally the finale happened as we were loading! But we still saw it all.

Then we braved the crowds and got to our car. I drove home as Ryan drove there I drove home. He passed out within 20 minutes. I was exhausted but doing well as we were going up 95N. We passed the spot where Ryan's tire blew and I laughed about it a bit. Flash forward maybe 50 miles and the all too familiar sound starts. The car itself is vibrating. Ryan wakes up and I quickly pull over. We look at the tires and see nothing. So I start driving again. I hit full speed and it starts once more. I quickly pull over and tell him I know it is the rear passenger tire. We look closely and there is a bubble the size of a goose egg on the inside wall of rubber... kinda like this:

I will upload my picture of my tire soon and change it out! But that is the basic idea. Scarily enough Ryan said if it HAD blown all the rubber would have flown off my tire and I would have been driving on my rim! That freaked me out a bit, I was doing 70! Who knows if I would have been able to keep the car in control. He is convinced I would have been able to, but I am convinced someone was watching over us that night.

Anyway, luckily I had a spare so we changed it in the dark at midnight on the side of 95. It took us forever to find the frame of my car to put the jack on (Ford Taurus's rule like that) but eventually it got done! I made Ryan drive the rest of the way home and had a 20 minute nap or so myself. When we got home we passed out.

We decided after 12 noon we are no longer allowed to drive through Virginia on 95N.

Today was good. Laundry was done, nails, errands, cleaning... and Ryan made an awesome dinner. A broiled marinated dry rub steak, vinegar stringbeans and baked potatoes! We had cinnamon sugar toast for dessert and then two stepped around the living room to classic country on 98.7.

Shower and bed! Night readers!

Such A Slacker!

But the good news is....

I GOT THE JOB!!!!

I start September 7th. And the best thing, the commute is SHORT. I mean, maybe two miles at most. After driving forty minutes one way and an hour the other it is going to bliss. I can walk. Or take bus. No beltway!!! My amazing friend Meghan works for this company and passed on my resume and I interviewed Monday. My friend from school Jen did too and even better, they hired her at another location with the probability of her transfering to mine.

Speaking of awful commutes check out mine from this morning...

It was light and a little overcast when I left the apartment. I was on the phone with our family friend Fran when I looked up and saw that. It started to drizzle slightly and I said, "Fran, I think I gotta go." Not a moment too soon as the skies opened up. I have never driven in anything like this in my life. I couldn't see two feet in front of me. I would have pulled over but there is no shoulder on the parkway and I was NOT about to go into the grass. Every now and then lightening would blind me and it took me ages to go at barely 30 miles an hour. The roads instantly flooded and I was honestly following the brake lights of the car in front of me.

I hit the beltway and it stops. Like dead. There was even blue sky!! I was shocked. But when I hit 270 I saw that tree. I had to go around three lanes of traffic to get to my exit. Then all the traffic lights were out... AGAIN.

Surprise surprise I get to camp and there is no power. You'd think after last time they'd send us home. Oh no. The owner, who is in Phili mind you, doesn't want to close. So there is no swimming, we have to be totally outside all day for everything and it is hot as heck and a pain in the neck! Finally they get some sense and do early dismissal at 12:45. I got home by three as car line as usual took an hour but Ryan got home early too! It was great.

We just had a nice dinner and now are drinking some wine. <3

Slacking

Sorry I am slacking on updating! Work has been crazy and I had my first "grown up job interview" today. At least that is what I am calling it. I think it went really well... I almost thought I had it when he mentioned one other interview tomorrow and three others, including a distant friend of mine from college! Eek! I find out Wednesday so please keep your fingers crossed for me.

Work has been so hectic, that and Ryan having duty and oil changes and broken nails and visiting uncles and a bloat we had a lot to do. All shall be explained in detail soon, I promise. Don't lose faith on me now!

But my uncle is almost here and we're going for dessert. I promise to update more very soon!

Worrier

I am a worrier.

It drives my husband absolutely nuts. He has the mentality of, "What good does worrying do? It doesn't change anything and just stresses you out. So let it go!" Well it isn't like it is a switch I can just turn off! I wish I could. I am sensitive sometimes, certain comments may stick with me and I will worry about them way more than I should. Worried is even an instant label on my tags for below my posts since I apparently use it too much!

Yes sometimes my worries are silly. I remember when I was learning to drive I was so worried I was going to sneeze behind the wheel. Yes. Really. You know, you close your eyes when you sneeze and you jerk around and when you're operating a one ton vehicle that can be bad! And I sneeze in twos... so two, four, six, or eight sneezes! That is a lot of time for closed eyes! But go figure the first time I sneeze while driving is during my driving test. Ugh. Well, I didn't crash! Now I look back and realize how silly it all was, but I still worried!

I worried when Ryan deployed. Legit there.

I worried about my digestive issues (which thankfully have calmed down over the last six months with this medication and me just being careful... no diagnosis was ever made). Legit worry.

I worried about wedding details and family situations. Semi Legit.

I worried about the move. Semi Legit.

Now, I am worrying about two things. I am worrying about finding a job in the next three weeks because as of the 20th I am officially unemployed. So far anywhere I have applied has been a bust. Monster and Careerbuilder are just giving me shady things. Legit worry.

I am also worrying about Ryan re-enlisting. Maybe not in the sense you would think. I married him in the mindframe he was staying in for career. It was only in June he flirted with the idea of getting out. The thing I worry about is how he will re-enlist. And when, so two things. I don't want him to stay infantry if he stays in. I hope that isn't bad of me, but the idea of another deployment with him right in the thick of things on the front line absolutely terrifies me. He found out at the moment CID is not quite an option because he hasn't been a CPL long enough. Since when you graduate you become a Sgt he needs to be his current rank longer. So maybe re-enlist and wait it out? His contract is over in May 2011, the end of May. The USMC fiscal year ends in October, so the bonuses can change.. up or down. He is flirting with the idea of re-enlisting before then to get the current bonus without risking it dropping. Which would mean moving as soon as October possibly.

I just want a decision made so we can plan. To know where we are going, where I need a job, just what we will do! Silly naive Marine Wife for even expecting such a thing :P

Am I silly?????

Graphically Awesome

Lindsey over at A Freckled Life has made me an AMAZING button. Please add it!! I am working on my button page for all of yours now (:

Expect some changes to my blog soon. She is also so super amazing she is helping me graphically update my layout. I cannot wait for my laptop to kick into gear so I can see how it looks!!!!

Surprises!

So I had a pretty long day today. Ryan left for the Iwo parade at 5:30, I woke up less than an hour later and got ready. Drove to work. Work all day with typical camp drama and lots of six year olds. I even worked OT (Over Time) today, so I was at camp three hours longer. Worth $30? Maybe. I am trying to save up to go home August 20th to surprise my Poppy for his 88th birthday so every bit helps! It wasn't too bad, just a long day.

Then I am driving home. I even took the beltway as it was post rush hour! Ryan texts me and asks me to go to Bolling to get him a 6-pack, he needed it after a parade day so I had no problem. I tried to use my GPS to get there faster instead of driving home and then going and I ended up all sorts of turned around. Not good. But I get what I need at the Class 6, crack and grab Burger King (ew I know) on base, and go home. I have my backpack, dinner, two bags, my drink, and my phone in my hand when I walk in the door. Or stagger depending on how you look at it. I throw my stuff down and flip on the light and see this...

A DESK! (Don't mind the dark awful quality of my cell phone picture)

My husband somehow between 5:30 and 8:00 and a PARADE went out, got a desk, got it in the apartment, and all set up! He was telling me he worked all day, only got half an hour comp time to come home and eat before the parade, and he somehow did this! I literally gasped and cried out, "We have a desk!!" before I tripped over my backpack and literally ate some of our Turkish Rug.

Still happy. Despite the rug burn. I cannot wait to tackle him in appreciation when he walks through the door!

ABCs

So Friday I picked up Ryan after work since he stayed at the E Club after for some drinks with the guys. I woke up around 2am, went to get him, and come home. In that little mix we had one of those big stupid fights that really have no purpose in happening. We spent a looooong time talking it out after that, but we ended up watching the sunrise! We were up til 6:30am or so. Then we slept til 4:30pm! Oops.

Then we had an AMAZING dinner with our neighbors, both are chefs, and I am SITLL full. Plus they had champagne for me (it is a huge weakness), as well as white wine and red wine aplenty! We had a huge cheese plate, strawberries, a proscuitto ham stuffed peppers olives crackers plate, caeser salad with home made croutons and dressing, then braised short ribs that literally fell apart when you touched them, buttermilk truffle mashed potatoes, acorn squash with sugar and butter, and asparagus. YUM. Dessert we provided, Ryan's super secret recipe key lime pie. Needless to say we went home and thanks to the food coma we were in fell asleep around 11pm. No idea how that really worked out.

But since the hubby's car was still at the barracks guess who got to get up at 6:30am to drive him to the barracks for duty? Meeeee! So I schlupped him over there, went to Bolling and got gas in my pajamas, and now am blogging and debating going back to sleep for a bit. Laundry has to be done, grocery shopping, and a nail appointment at 1:30.

Plus, today we've been married for three months (: <3

Well, I will do this too I suppose... I borrowed this from Mrs S @ The Adventures of Mr Superman and Mrs S

A- My AIR CONDITIONER is set on: MED COOL in the dining room, so I have no idea what that is translated to. In the bedroom usually 66. We have window units so they need to be set cool to get the apartment that way!

B- My BEDROOM theme is: Just moved in chic. A white/red/blue/pink/green quilty sort of bedspread with ivory sheets. Wood floor, stark white walls. A few boxes still laying around. Persian red and blue rug. Light colored wood dressers. Nice huh?

C- The CAR in the driveway is: Well in the parking lot. Only mine at the moment, a champagne colored 97 Ford Taurus that just crossed 223,000 miles. Ryan's, when it isn't at the barracks, is a black Honda Accord (99 I believe)... and a manual. *groan*

D- My DESK looks: missing :( We have it on our list to get!

E- The EXACT time I wake up daily is: 6:20am

F- The FIRST thing I wash in the shower is: My face

G- My GARAGE is filled with: Nothing. We don't have one!

H- My HOUSE is: actually an apartment.

I- If you peeked INSIDE my bedroom you'd see: A bed that needs to be made after I crawl back into it for a bit and boxes!

J- My favorite JUICE is: Cranberry Pomegranate.

K- The best part of my KITCHEN is: a gas stove! And our wine pictures on the wall.

L- The LAST person who visited my home was: Rigoberto and Tanya, our neighbors.

M- The last piece of MAIL for me was: Bank Statement.

N- My NEIGHBORS think I'm: Young but obviously cool as they made us an amazing dinner!

O- If you OPENED my fridge you'd see: Not a lot. I am going shopping today... but condiments, a pitcher of tea, bacon, cheese, lunch meat, and one egg.

P- My last house PARTY was: not here! We haven't quite had a party yet. Just friends over hanging out.

Q- A QUICK meal I like to fix is: either pasta of some sort or chicken fried steak.

R- My favorite ROOM of the house is: our living room.

S- The SHAMPOO brand I use: Herbal Essences (drama clean!)

V- The last time I VACUUMED was: Monday.

W- Looking out my WINDOW I see: Crepe Myrtle trees, cars, a motorcycle, and our street.
