March Who Madness

When Ryan and I moved to North Carolina we were just discovering the joys of streaming tv shows on Netflix. When we first moved in and settled we started with How I Met Your Mother and by June had finished that. We debated what series to start next and I suggested Doctor Who. I was unemployed and viewing the Geek section of Pinterest way too much and every time I saw tons of pins about the Doctor. It piqued my curiousity so I mentioned it to Ryan when it popped up on the popular selections and he agreed we could try it. The first episode we were like, "Ooook." The second episode we were intrigued. Then we were just hopelessly hooked. We watched all six seasons by the end of August when season seven aired on BBC America. Every week we'd watch the new episode together on Saturday night and we also made sure to watch the Christmas Special. Now with the second half of the season starting at the end of the month I am becoming uber excited. So when I saw this link up I knew I had to jump on board! Hopefully it will also keep me blogging a bit more!

And you can check out my Doctor Who pinboard here on Pinterest. Like I said, slightly obsessed.

Day One: Favorite Doctor

I am ashamed to admit I haven't watched any of the old/original Doctor Who series. Fail. I know. So it comes down to the 9th, 10th or 11th Doctors. I love all of them for different reasons but my favorite is...

The Ninth Doctor. Love that quote.

(And yes, ten is a close close second! Because how can you not love David Tennant?!)

But Christopher Eccleston is brilliant. He was cool, charming and got me hooked on the series and the Doctor. There is a Whovian fan saying that you never forget your first doctor, and it is true. Nine is often described as a tiger (whereas ten is Tigger and Eleven is an uncoordinated housecat who fell of the couch and acted like he meant to do that). Nine opened the Doctor Who universe for me and I am often sad he only did one season. And most Whovians forget, Rose fell in love with Nine... and then adjusted to Ten. Nine was her original love and that is not something to forget!

Pretty much how Nine and Rose's relationship always worked...!

And he was hilarious in an unintentional way. His quotes were awesome and you could tell the man had layers! He was the last of his kind, had done some terrible things... but he was softening thanks to the companionship of a mortal.

Plus, how can you not love this...

"The best thing about Doctor Who for me has been the response I've had from children, both in the street and the number of letters and drawings of me and Daleks, which are all over my wall at home. In all the 20 years I've been acting, I've never enjoyed a response so much as the one I've had from children and I'm carrying that in my heart forever." - Christopher Eccleston

  2. OMG! I love Doctor Who! I might have to copy your idea and do March Who Madness as well. Maybe it will get me out of my writing funk.

BTW: Ten is my favorite. Nine was brilliant but with Tennant being around so long I became quite fond of him. Eleven is growing on me.

  4. I just started watching on Netflix. I'll definitely agree, the first one was a little too weird for the mister and me. But I hear so many great things about the show, I had to keep watching to see what all the fuss is about. I think I'm about 5 episodes in now and I'm starting to get it.

  5. I've been using Netflix for...well, a long time! But I've never taken the chance to watch "Doctor Who". If it's as good as you say it is, I'll give it a try. :)
