My Brother Kicks Butt

On May 1, 2011 my little brother earned his black belt in Tae Kwon Do. Unfortunately Ryan and I could not make it up that weekend (as we had been up there the week before for Easter and it was our first anniversary)but my mom sent me a ton of pictures today that another her friend Babs took. Babs is awesome, she is the woman who took some of my pre-wedding/getting ready photos as well! I have to share them here as I am so ridiculously proud of Stefan! And I am glad my mom, dad, grandfather, two of my aunts, and cousins made it!

He has been in Tae Kwon Do since he was three years old, going to class two to three times a week! As his training intensified so did his work load. My brother worked his little behind off to make it this far... through broken bones, illness, school work, and everything else. His dyslexia and dysgraphia made a lot of it a challenge for him, especially once black belt training came into play. He had to write out all the belts and moves for each of them, a written exam of sorts where he really struggled. It took him three times to pass it but he worked so incredibly hard and did pass!

He would wake up early on Sundays and go to his 3 hour Black Belt class that started at 6am! Usually going to a soccer game right after! He ran 14 miles even one of the classes! Stef also had to do knuckle push ups on concrete, pull ups, crunches, running, and of course the fighting, jumping, punching and getting hit!

So yes, ridiculously proud!

  5. Congratulations!!! That is awesome and the photos are too :o) Such a lot of hard work and dedication! When our son had gotten his Black Belt, we were happy to share that time with my hubby's uncle and aunt (they lived closest to us and were like another set of grandparents.)

    Blessings & Aloha!

  6. Congratulations to your brother! What a great sense of accomplishment! Getting to black belt is not an easy task. My kids' TKD master told them that they have to practice close to 700 times a week for black belt. I thought it is a bit much, but necessary to get to their goal. =)
