Sorry for the anonymous post as I am a lurker and have no blog. Regarding the ups and downs--it's all about what you make of it. My husband is in the Marine Corps as well and we moved from Ft. Bragg to Camp Lejeune 3 months ago. Obviously I wasn't fortunate enough to live in a wonderful area before. We decided to move to Hampstead, not Jacksonville. I'll be honest, I see my fair share of military, but actually it's about 50/50. Plus we have the perks of being close to Wilmington and the beach. I feel like I have the best of both. Downside? The job market is pathetic here and I hear that from everyone. I work in Wilmington and took a huge paycut AND the drivers here are horrible. That being said, I'll take the beach over Fayettenam anyday.
ReplyDeleteI like the feel of being in a military town. We're at Ft Meade now which is definitely a military area. I like being around spouses.
ReplyDeleteSorry for the anonymous post as I'm a lurker and have no blog. I enjoyed your post about the ups and downs of moving to a military town. Like you, I recently moved to Camp Lejeune. My husband is in the Marine Corps and we moved from Ft. Bragg here in March. I feel like I have the best of a military town and enough space away to meet a variety of people. We chose to live in Hampstead instead of Jacksonville so we could be closer to the beach and Wilmington. Regarding the job market, it's horrendous here and I hear that from everyone. I took a huge paycut to work in Wilmington. With the influx of people coming and going with military AND the beach atmosphere it definitely causes an instability in jobs--that combined with the economy. That being said, I'll take the beach over Fayettenam anyday, minus the bad drivers!
