A Night Off

For my night off yesterday I got some lovely quality time with my husband. We snuggled on the couch and watched Cash Cab (and let me tell ya, if we were on that show we'd win a lot of money between the two of us and our amazing amounts of useless knowledge) before heading out to dinner. It was unseasonably warm so we walked up the street to a restaurant we walked by a hundred times, Southside 1815. Never knew it, but it was a southern restaurant... yea I guess the name would help but looking at it it just looks like a typical bar/pub sort of place.

We actually ate outside, sans jackets, and it was some good food! We split some fried pickles for an appetizer, then Ryan had fried chicken with mashed potatoes and veggies. I had a dixie chicken sandwich (chicken, bacon, cheddar, a fried green tomato...that was a first!, watercress, and ranch bbq sauce) with fries. YUM. We then stumbled home and I was in bed, asleep by 9:15pm.

Bliss.

I was tagged by Long Distance Love to answer these 8 questions. Since I have done this before I may just answer them and leave them at that!!

1. If you could change 1 thing about your partner what would it be and why?

My mother in law said something very smart... women marry men thinking they can change them, and men marry women thinking they will never change. I don't think there is anything about Ryan I could honestly say I want to change without having him change in the process. Sometimes I wish he drank a little less, but that is more of a problem I have than he does. His tolerance is a whole heck of a lot higher than mine and I just need to get used to that.

2. If you were given the cutest puppy right now, what would you name it?

We already discussed this, Rylie. It is a combination of Ryan and Allie... haha.

3. Something you dislike about yourself?

Physically, my chest. Internally, my lack of self confidence.

4. What is something you'd like to see changed in this world?

I'd like to see everyone care about other people, fully and completely. Something tells me that would solve a lot of problems.

5. Do you truly believe one can live without regrets?

I do.

6. What is your favorite thing about each season?

Spring - Now it will be my wedding anniversary!
Summer - Being able to go to the beach or travel.
Fall - Leaves changing.
Winter - Christmas and snow!

7. Name one of your goals in life.

Career wise, to be a famous actress (:P) and life wise, to be a good wife and someday mom.

8. Are you living the life you want? If not, how could you get yourself there?

Mostly yes. I wish I could be acting again, but I just need to find the time to audition and earn the roles I can. I am happy in my current job, I love my husband and where we live, so I just need to push myself to do my own goals.

Off til rehearsal. Cross your fingers it goes smoothly and I am not there til midnight again....

Midnight Madness!

Ok not really... but that was the time I was at the theatre til last night! I got home around 12:30, showered because I was gross, and fell into bed with my passed out husband around 1am. I was up at 7am for work. Ugh. It has been busy on and off today but I am dragging. So. Tired!

I got to the theatre around 6, heated up my frozen dinner, and tried to wrangle 55 opera singers into costume to be prepared to go on time. Needless to say that did not happen. I got spoiled working the Fringe Festival the past two summers with professional singers. They were always on time, in costume and make up and warmed up BEFORE they needed to be. They were always willing to help out and were the nicest people. Some of these kids, yes I can say kids referencing to freshmen, have never done tech before and were nonstop complaining.

Tech sucks. Anyone in any show, play, musical, opera, knows this. You sit around for hours to do a minute of work (on the performance side) and if you are crew you are busting your butt for fifteen hours straight to get things done and not waste anyone's time. You are polite, you try, but some people just do not get it.

If in the professional world you EVER showed up an hour and a half late, you would be fired. If you back talked to an Assistant Stage Manager who called to tell you you were late and see where you are, you'd be fired. If you were consistently rude, not in costume, missed your cue... you'd be fired. You get the picture right?

Most of them are great, especially the principle roles. They are also so so so talented. The Queen of the Night's aria gives me chills every time. You know it...

The parts where she sings with no words I am sure you recognize! And the fact the women playing the queen are in college (or grad school) and are THAT good, is amazing.

But we ran over last night til about quarter after eleven trying to finish the run. Then I had to use my "bitch list" and basically assure them they were all great but there were some things that were just unacceptable (ie missing cues, trashing the green room, back talking to the ASM, being LATE during tech week). By the time they all got out of costume and I locked up and we had our production meeting... it was midnight.

DC was deserted as I drove home. It was kinda creepy actually.

I also left my laptop charger in the theater. Lame. At least Cat was there painting and hid it for me. No internet for me tonight post-work!

Good news is, I am not called tonight! It is Sitzprobe, aka music rehearsal with Maestro, and the crew is meeting to finish the build, but since I am "professional" (aka I earned my four years of crew hours) I can stay home tonight! I am out of here in four minutes and my goal is to be in bed by 8pm. (:

Long Weekend, Long Survey.

Oh what a long, long weekend.

27 of the last 48 hours were spent in a dark theatre hunched over a tech table and a score in a binder that weights a good ten pounds. Light cues. Media cues. Fly cues. Calling the show. Writing cues. "HOLD!" Music stops. Caffeine. Doughnuts. Pizza. McDonalds. Quiznos. Sugarfree Redbull. Sneaked cigarettes. Bleary eyes. Not enough sleep. Hard theatre seat from the 1970s. Neck cramp. Back ache (what else is new?). Dragging heavy platforms. Yelling at late singers. Cursing.... Listening to the Queen of the Night nail her famous aria. Seeing the stage look like it is a rolling ball of flames in the temple of fire. Laughing at the comedic characters' reveal and romance. Seeing the serpent slink out to open the show. Watching the leads find one another and be safe and together for a happily ever after. The stage positively ringing as 55 amazing voices sing out into a darkened theatre in perfect harmony.

That is tech weekend.

There is the good, the bad, the exhausting, and the tedious. But it usually ends up being worth it. Being in the theatre was adventure enough, but let us compare evening notes, post-rehearsal.

Friday Night

I went and watched another run through, pre-tech. I was supposed to get light cues but as usual we were way wayyy behind schedule. At least I got to see it again. I go home a little after 11. I get home around 11:45 or so. I sit down and make Ryan his "honey do list" (as he calls it) for the weekend. He had his first dinner with the Masons the night before (yes THE masons, he wants to join) and really wanted to tell me about it. I was exhausted and knew I had to be up super early but I knew he was excited so I agreed to go with him for ONE cigarette. We sit and talk for a bit about it and he goes to have another one. I am freezing in some baggy sweats and slippers and totally exhausted so I stop him. We get up to go inside and he looks at me and goes...

"Do you have your keys?"

No keys. No phones. No answer at the leasing office. Buzzing our ONE neighbor who has her doorbell hooked to her home 3 times and one hour later we get back inside at 1:30am.

I was ready to kill him. I may have punched him hard in the arm once. Or twice. I was so cold and tired and I had to be up at 8 to run errands pre-rehearsal. He got to sleep in.

He did try and help me fix my back though (sitting on a stoop for an hour did not help back pain) since it was too late for me to take my medicine and still wake up in the morning.

Flash forward 14 hours to Saturday Night

Long long day in the theatre. I finall get to go home at 11:30pm after being there since 9:30am. I am driving on North Capital St in the center lane. I am going slow as I know it is a sucky place to drive so I am being careful. Guy in the left lane was not. All of a sudden I lurch to the right as his front bumper hits me and scrapes the entire side of my car. I try to get out of the way and nearly get hit by a bus on the other side who honks at me as the guy who hit me tries to gesture at me to pull over.

My first car accident.

We pull over on the side of the road and I get out of my car shaking and crying. Damage is all cosmetic and I am shaken up but fine. The guy claimed full responsibility from the start and gave me all his information as he apologized. We both have GEICO so we call and get the claims in and finally after midnight I get to go home again. My mom was on the phone with me when I got hit (in a hands free device down in the middle counsel, promise!) so I called her back and filled her in. Then I had to call Ryan. You know any phone call that starts, "I am ok..." usually is not good. But he told me if I was ok and the car was ok just to come home. I walk in the door and he just stood and gave me a hug and I cried for about twenty minutes.

I really never want to go through that again.

It also made tech yesterday feel very long. But Ryan came and sat with me on dinner break and then stayed to watch us tech act two. He shocked me more when he said he couldn't wait to come back and see the show finished! Not bad since he sat there three hours and watched them sing in German with no translation.... he also did all the grocery shopping, a huge clean of the entire apartment, and laundry. I love him!

Two more minutes working here than off to the theatre til 11:30pm again.

This time next week it is done! Cannot wait to sleep.

This Friday's round up is hosted by Me and My SoldierMan so head on over to her blog to check it out!!

Don't forget to head over to Wife of a Sailor for the Milspouse Friday Fill In!

1. Are you a night owl or an early bird?
So completely a night owl. I can stay up late and sleep in like nobody's business. I would rather work from 10-7 than 8-5! When I do see mornings though I love the feel of them. The air seems so fresh and clean and the sun so bright.... but only when I see them by choice. Getting up for work does not count!

2. What makes you jealous?
Not much... but I am jealous of some of my acting/theatre friends. I have not acted in a show since June 2009 (Disney does not count as "acting" for me, I was a "Presenter" at Innoventions in EPCOT. I am jealous of some of my wonderful friends who are working in theatres in NYC and auditioning or doing student films and shows and being extras... with being a Newlywed and a new job I just don't have time to audition anymore, and that makes me really sad. I am also jealous of my friends still in Disney, I loved my job and miss it very much!

3. Have you started Christmas/holiday shopping yet? When will you finish? (There’s only 63 days left!)
Hahaha no. We have an idea of what we want to get people but nothing is actually done. It probably will get done the week before as per usual.

4. What would you have a personal chef make you tonight?
Something really yummy and elaborate I don't have time to make. A Souffle is a definite for dessert with chocolate (or chocolate mousse!). I loved this wildberry duck I had at The Source, Wolfgang Puck's restaurant in DC, and it was amazing. So that with veggies and mashed potatoes maybe!

5. Where was your first kiss?
Oh god, it was actually in my church! Youth Group lock in/sleepover. We were in the narthex, the big open front chamber before you go into the actual church, and sitting on one of the couches and he leaned in for it. I was 14, he had just asked to become my "boyfriend" that night, and drank a whole container of milk before said kiss. I hate milk. It grosses me out.

Needless to say that relationship did not last long...

I have my first night of "Hell Week" aka tech week, for the opera tonight. From tonight until Halloween the Magic Flute will be taking over my life. Rehearsal til 11 tonight, 10-10 tomorrow, 1-11 Sunday, and 6:30-11 every night next week. Shows Thursday-Sunday. My role? Production Stage Manager. At least I can still tech even if acting is not in the cards at the moment.

Oh boy!

Crazy!

Sorry guys, work has been SO busy this week! My usual blog time (writing wise anyway) has gone on hold. We are going through billing right now so massive invoices and mailings have been going on, plus general busy-ness. I also have been feeling rather icky the past two days... it is so hot in my apartment (and we don't have the heat on yet!) that it makes me so nauseous. No fun. It lingers all day and then I end up feeling better in time to go home and feel worse.

I had my first physical therapy session last night too, and man oh man it was hard! I was expecting it to be, but I guess not that much! I did a lot of exercises to work on strengthening and flexibility. I have about ten exercises I am supposed to do every day (sometimes twice...) and a lot of posturing and general knowledge to think about a lot. It is crazy!

I then went and picked up my dress for the ball... and it is a perfect fit! No tailoring needed, thank goodness.

Then my loving husband and I watched Hocus Pocus before going to bed.

I wanted to post some pictures of the dress and of the award I got today, but blogger is not cooperating. It is 5pm anyway, I am going HOME!

Renn Fest

This was from last weekend, during the Columbus Day 72, and I just had to share some of the fun pictures I took at the Renn Fest up in Maryland!

Lovin' the hat Mister!
Flower Garlands for your hair
Jousting!!
Oktoberfest!!
Steak ... on a Stake!
Hack N Slash, the BEST comedy performance there every year. They crack me up!
In the audience at Hack N Slash!
So close.... Ryan tried to do Jacob's Ladder...
... and failed.
The moon at the end of the night.... it was gorgeous and my amazing new camera can actually take a picture of it!

Great Falls

Saturday I was determined to go out of the house. Ryan had a late night and after awhile I got tired of sitting around the apartment. So I got in the car and drove Great Falls VA. It is gorgeous. It is right off the beltway in McLean and it is $5 to park your car (and you get three days with that $5!). I grabbed myself some trail mix and a bottle of water at CVS and made my way with my camera to play.

My Dad told me about this place two years ago and Ryan and I went November of 2008 to hike around. We did the long trail, parts of it you literally were climbing rock faces, not on a trail! Ryan was like, "When you said we were going to some kind of park this was not what I had in mind!" After the trail we had to walk a mile or two back on the road in the pitch black. I was a little freaked. Mind you Ryan and I had just gotten serious, maybe around our six month mark. He was holding my hand and said, "Don't worry... I love you too much to let anything happen to you."

Did I mention that was the first time he ever said it?

I literally stopped in the middle of the road and looked at him in shock. He smiled and said, "What? I love you."

"I love you too."

Commence silly grins and hand holding the rest of the way to the car.

I was hoping he would go with me last weekend, but that is a whole other story....

Anyway, these are the results from Saturday...

Self timers are fun on cameras.... I walked away in the first and just sat in the second.

High Water marks. Considering this is at the top of the gorge and off to the left I was kind of impressed...
View from the overlook. Stunning!
Yes I was there.
Waterfalls
Playing with aperature and close ups and colors...

Ansel Adams wannabe much? I just love the moon! I love my camera can capture it!
Luck, I was walking by and I happened to see a floating leaf on a trail sign. It was stuck in the spider web and the spider happened to be home!

More to come (:

Fall Swap

So my wonderful partner in the blog swap BethAnn from Bella N Chief completely spoiled me! I need to get better at my care packages as all the ones I have gotten so far are fricken awesome!!! I got a gorgeous blue pashmina, lotion, a pumpkin and leaves to decorate (they are now up in the apartment), some fun pink things for Breast Cancer Awareness month (very great cause, near and dear to my heart!), cards, snowman post its, and an off duty sleep mask. Too cute! We may have to do a cookie exchange soon eh? ;)

I hope there is a winter one to follow!

Step One - Check!

I meant to write about this yesterday but work (my usual blogging time when it is slow :P ) was crazy when I got there!!! Now if you read these posts you will be mostly up to speed...

So I had my appointment with the plastic surgeon today. I actually ended up being late thanks to the filming of Transformers 3 all over DC. Yes, that is awesome, I want to go watch some if it if I can, but not when my husband and I are running late for my appointment!!! Yikes. I was so nervous too. I was shaking and jittery all morning.

Well we get to the hospital and I met with my doctor and... he approved me for the procedure. Yes it was awkward being in a room topless (with an open front gown really) with my husband, a male doctor, and a male student doctor. I focused on the back wall and went to my happy place and tried not to blush. But Dr. Ducic said I am a good candidate. I am actually a DD, not a D, and asked what size I would want. I said the B/C range and asked his opinion. He said closer to C may be better and more proportionate for me but that is just his opinion.

The whole thing happened to fast. I gave the nurse my information, the doctor came in measured me, looked, discussed somethings, and it was done.

Basically my right one (which apparently is bigger, I had no idea but Ryan said he knew that... heck he looks at them more than I do so whatever) would get 700 grams taken out and my left one 600 grams.

I have to quit smoking three weeks before the operation and for three weeks after (heck if I do six weeks I may as well quit) and Ryan cannot around me either. In the words of Dr Ducic, "Do not smoke near her. Not in the car with her, in the same room with her, or anywhere around her. No smoke. At all." Ok then! He also mentioned he has never once had a complication with a breast reduction surgery and I would not be the first! Statistics were discussed, usually 20% of women are unable to breast feed but none of his patients have ever had that happen. Good stuff.

It is a three hour procedure and I would be kept overnight for observation. He then recommended I take two weeks off of work (yikes) and then no heavy lifting or strenuous activity for six weeks post-op. I would have drains the first three to five days that would then be removed. After fifteen days my stitches would come out. Again, yikes. Ryan offered to take leave to stay with me and my mom offered to come down too if need be.

After the consultation I had pictures taken with a photographer in the studio down the hall (thankfully female) and then met with the nurse. TriCare only gave me a referral for a consultation so the nurse said I had to go back and get one for the treatment and surgery and other visits. Cue 45 fricken minutes on the phone with Dewitt Army Hospital and still NO appointment and NO results. UGH. I will call again Monday and keep trying. I need the referral so the nurse can submit my package to TriCare for approval. With my back problems, physical therapy, xrays, medication... she thinks I am pretty much a shoe in.

TriCare please please please do not screw this up. I am tired of back pain and dents in my shoulders and skin problems and people staring at my chest not my eyes. Thank you.

After we grabbed McDonalds, dropped Ryan off at work and then flew to the office myself. It was billing today so I was adding up things for clients and inputting data (skipped lunch to make up for way lateness) all day! I took half hour lunches (vs an hour) all week to make up for it and need two more next week. Got my nails done, came home, end Friday!

Step 2, my PCM's approval, to follow. Fingers crossed!

End of the World?

Ok... this is going to be one of those posts that make people go "Huh??" but I am curious as is my husband.

Ryan plans. He has always been and will always be a planner. He has plans for the plans of his plans. He plans more in a week than I do in a year. Budgets, charts, ideas, everything! I have to admit it comes in handy sometimes, but other times I have to look at him and go, "You are insane."

This is one of those insane times.

I personally think it is crazy, but he thinks it is so so important and is convinced if I write about it to you all you may even tell me your husband/boyfriend/fiance/Marine/Sailor/etc think the same way or have a similar plan.

What would you do if it were to be the end of the world? What if this whole 2012 thing happens? Now I am not talking about the world going poof, that would be rather silly to plan for. But Ryan keeps insisting "Man is nine meals away from anarchy. You don't eat for three days, as in you cannot, you will do anything for your family." His end of the world planning is for things like the collapse of a government, technology deadzones (aka our online, phone, electricity etc go away in a cyber attack), banks completely crash, or any other sort of similar scenario.

Yes, he has a plan for if that all happens. How to acquire weapons, build a defense, where we would go that is "safe" *yes he has the actual location picked* and other things along those lines.

Now when we sit out on the curb and smoke, or have a drink or two and smoke, we tend to have deep talks. We will talk about our future together, how we think we will be as parents, our pasts, our opinions... I wil admit it is some of the best talking we do. But every now and then he brings this whole thing up and you know what?

It freaks me the heck out.

He wants my opinions on his plan. My input. What I would do/say/think if this/this/or this happens.

I hate thinking about it. Chaos, anarchy, destruction, not really my cup of tea. But he doesn't want me to just "Follow along blindly if something happens. Or shut down completely." But I cannot help it. Thinking about something like that makes me feel like I cannot breathe, like I have an electric current running under my skin and have to get up and move away fast.

So he told me to turn to you all. He said to ask you so I can see that your SOs all think the same way. Or have something similar planned. Feel free to ask... maybe they don't share it with you but he insists he is not the only one.

Is he? Help me out here ladies. Does your man have an end of the world plan? Or is Ryan just way over thinking things?

PS- Welcome new followers! Glad you're here. Leave me a comment and I will try and follow you as well. Working a desk job=lots of time for blog reading/commenting!

Free Bed and Breakfast

I forgot I wanted to share this! My mom called last night to tell me about it and I feel the need to pass it on. For Veteran's Day Weekend over 400 Bed and Breakfasts across the United States (and Canada!) are donating rooms to active duty/retired military for a free night! Most states have them so if you have a 72 with your man that weekend take advantage of it! It is the night leading into Veteran's Day.

Here is a list of the participating inns.... click!. A lot of them are already full. Some places reserved one room, another has 20 of their 24 rooms set aside.

If you do book it, share here! I would love to know if anyone goes anywhere! I sent the information to Ryan to see what he thinks but who knows? Fingers crossed!

5 Ws

Firstly Kaylee at Devil Dog Darling tagged me in this question thing so I am of course going to do it while at work!

1. WHO do you think would make the best celebrity president?

Is it bad my first instinct was George Clooney? I know he does a lot of humanitarian work but that alone does not a president make. Geeze, I guess some of the obvious choices would be guys like Steven Colbert, that could work. And my feminist side is saying I need to pick a female too so I will say Meryl Streep because I love her :P

2. WHAT kind of crafts do you most enjoy doing?

Photography, scrapbooking, and baking/cake decorating.

3. WHEN you were a child, did you ever see yourself living the life that you are now?

Not at all! One, I was a loser so I never thought I would get married. Being a military spouse never crossed my mind. I was convinced I was going to be "discovered" and be an award winning actress by the time I was a teenager so I could not go to school anymore. So it may not be the life my little kid self pictured, but it is pretty amazing. I am happy in my unexpected place here in the future!

(But if you are a nice talent agent of sorts and still want to discover me I am all for it... :P )

4. WHERE do you visit most often in your dreams?

Ireland. Shockingly enough I have had a lot of dreams where I just know somehow that is where I am. The beach pops up a lot too. Most recently I dreamt Ryan and I were Sims... that was weird. Oh, yea, Ireland.

5. WHY is it so hard to come up with these questions? (In place of why... Tell me one thing that not many people know about you.)

Tell me about it!

One thing not many people know... that is a tough one. When you pour your heart out on the internet not much goes unsaid. I guess the fact that I am very sensitive. I feel emotions very easily. I can be quite empathetic at times. I overthink situations to the point I can physically make myself sick. I try to avoid all of the above and have gotten better aboit it, but every now and then I still have my moments.

My Questions!
1. WHO do you wish read your blog but doesn't?
2. WHAT is the biggest lesson you had to learn the hard way?
3. WHERE do you wish you had been born? (versus the actual location)
4. WHEN is your guestimation for the apocalypse (any shape or form)?
5. WHY are these questions so random? do you blog?

I know number five has been thrown out there before but I am curious. I tried to pick other questions that others may not have asked before. I will tag five people, but even if I don't tag you please feel free to answer the questions in a comment, I would love to see everyone's answers!

2. Confessions of a Sailor's Wife
3. Katie @ Like Sunshine After Rain
4. Amber @ Goodnight Moon

Weekend Errands

Our weekend, as wonderful as a 72 is, was a lot of errands! Grocery shopping, bank, CVS, dry cleaners for tailoring someone's Alphas, shopping for all our winter clothes, physical therapy (for my back), and laundry. Whew. Shopping was great, we both got winter coats and I got clothes for work, sweaters and pants, black flats (since my old ones had no heel left and nearly killed me) and some gorgeous brown boots.

We did have our fun though, we went to the Maryland Renn Fest on Sunday... aka the Renaissance Festival! I love those things and have gone since my freshman year of college, but I was nervous to see how the hubby would react to it all. It may be a bit too much nerdy overdrive for him, but he loved it. We had amazing food, steak on a stake, macaroni and cheese on a stick, turkey legs, huge stuffed baked potatoes, cheesecake on a stick, ale, hard cider... and mead! We had a great drink called a Bee Sting which was half mead and half hard cider and aside from the few bees that followed us around a bit (*shudder*). We saw Hack n Slash, my favorite comedy duo, perform as well as some very good jousting. Fun times!

Yesterday I had my first bout of PT (Physical Therapy that is, not what my hsuband does a couple times a week!). It was pretty good. We spent most of the time figuring out what I needed and how my back was, I got some exercises to work on my flexibility and proper ways to sit and stand and walk... re-learning to posture yourself is not fun at all. My back was so tense it was actually making my left leg shorter than my right one! So my therapist had to shake me a little loose. Some of my "homework" stretches I actually have done before in yoga or Alexander Technique so they should not be too hard. I just need to make time and do them. I have appointments twice a week starting officially in November so fingers crossed!

After I went to David's Bridal and my wonderful husband helped me pick out a dress for the ball... what do you think?

I wore a blue dress when we went two years ago (and when I went three years ago with my Poppy I wore a black one) so I figured now would be a good time for a red dress! It arrives 10/21 so if I do need it altered (Ryan said it should be taken in, I said it was fine!) I have some time... but not a DB! Because it was less than 30 days to the even they charged me a "rush" fee of $30. Lame. Luckily the dresses are usually cheap enough to work it out. I'd rather order online next time and not worry about that at all, but I am so hard to fit I needed to get my size in the store first. I love that this dress is an illusion halter, but it covers up my chest enough so I am not inappropriate. It fit me very well and I am not gonna lie, when I was in there I was having major wedding dress shopping flashbacks. I was so tempted to ask for mine and try it on but I knew Ryan would think I am a little crazy! But it was in there somewhere (:

After work today I am heading to the Design Run of the Magic Flute I am the Production Stage Manager for... wish me luck! It is going to be a long night. I am praying I can get home and in bed before midnight, but since the run is til 11 I doubt I will...

(Note to self: Stop using ellipses (...) so much!

Friday!

I am so excited it is Friday.

Not only is it Lee Denim Day at work (so I can wear Jeans!), it is also Client Appreciation Week so we had a chili lunch for all the clients , AND it is the start of a three day weekend. But the best news?? Ryan got out of work at noon so he came to go out to lunch with me and see my office... and he came in his Charlies. He looked soooo handsome. Plus he got to mee my co-worker Sarah, my boss Shawn, and a lot of our clients (a lot of whom are former military) looking all nice and sharp!

We walked over to Potbellys and had a nice lunch together. It made my day! Now he is home, having a run or a nap or both, and I will see him in an hour!

Friday Stuff!

MilSpouse Friday Fill in! Head on over to Wife of a Sailor to join in the fun.

1. What is the longest road trip you’ve ever taken?
Recently New Jersey to South Carolina, 13 hours straight, with Ryan last year on his pre-deployment leave. When I was six we drove to Canada and it took about two days I think.

2. Do you collect anything? Tell us a bit about it.
Random stuff from places I visit... post cards, napkins, souveniers... pictures. Ryan and I recently started a new tradition (since about a month before our wedding). We save important wine/champagne corks from special occassions. We write the date and occassion on them and have them lined up on our window sill in the living room. I love that.

3. What is your favorite part about being an adult?)
I love being able to get in the car and drive whenever I want. To have a drink or a cigarette without being illegal. I also love that my husband and I can make a lives for ourselves responsibly... yea dorky I know.

4. What song brings a tear to your eye?
I'm Already Home - Tim McGraw (SO sad)
It's Your Love - Faith Hill and Tim McGraw (our wedding song)
You Raise Me Up - Josh Groban (Father daughter Dance)
And... ok don't laugh, the Christmas Shoes

5. Describe your first plane ride (how old you were, where you were heading, etc).
It was right before my first birthday, NJ to California to visit my aunt/godmother. I remember nothing. (:

And don't forget to head over to The Life of an Army Wife for the MilSpouse Weekly Roundup!

Chip

Not much has been going on over here... just work and other such things. The big thing this week has been "the chip."

Lucky me chipped a tiny bit of enamel off my front tooth. It isn't noticeable or particularly painful, but my mom said I should get it fixed before it breaks or really badly chips. Ugh. One, I hate hate hate the dentist. A near death experience will do that to you. Let's just say they left the gas on too long and I was having a bad trip on the gas and then blacked out completely during the procedure. So, not a fan. I had to go to a sedation dentist the last time I went since I panic. Two, TriCare is throwing me through yet another loop.

I asked Ryan awhile ago about enrolling/activating dental because someone mentioned to me it was a side company connected with TriCare. I also heard I had to enroll in TriCare but that was done when I joined DEERS so who knows? Either way Ryan never really got back to me and since I dread the dentist and didn't care to push it, it just was left hanging.

Now the chip.

Ok I am an idiot, it is all my own fault. I didn't feel like getting the staple remover and my nail wouldn't fit under so I decided to just bite the thing off. Brilliant right? Great job Allie. I almost deserve to have that chip. Anyway...

I went on TriCare's website and found the United Concordia or whatever the dentail site is called and clicked on enroll. Then I see this...

The TRICARE Dental Program (TDP) is available to family members of all active duty service members of any of the seven uniformed services and to National Guard/Reserve members and/or their families. To be eligible for the TDP, the sponsor must have at least 12 months remaining on his or her service commitment* at the time of enrollment.

*When the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS) indicates less than 12 months remaining, United Concordia will validate the intent of the sponsor to continue their service commitment. This service commitment will be based on the time remaining in any single status or in any uninterrupted combination of active duty or National Guard/Reserve status.

Well since Ryan has no idea whether he is enlisting or not, I am, to put it mildly, screwed! We are definitely waiting until February to see what our options are what with him applying for CID are. He needs to be a CPL for a certain period of time to apply for the program and February he will hit his year mark in that rank so he will apply then. So technically we aren't even sure if he is going to re-enlist yet because if he doesn't get into CID then he may not re-enlist!

UGH!

So what do I do? Find a dentist and pay for the chip (and a cleaning) out of pocket??? That will cost me an arm a leg and probably our first born I am sure. And heaven forbid there is a rogue cavity or my wisdom teeth (the two I have, one is kinda in the other three never made an appreance) need to come out, I am in huuuge trouble.

What to do!?

Brrr!

It got cold! How did that happen?? Yes we were all waiting for fall but this feels almost wintery! Geeze.

Yesterday Ryan and I were going to go on our traditional nightly walk (since there is finally no rain!) and we made it as far as the curb before saying, nope, too cold having a cigarette and going back inside! Ryan made yummy chicken fajitas for dinner and we opted to snuggle onto the couch and watch movies.

After the end of You've Got Mail we start browsing the channels. I see Halloweentown is on the Disney Channel. Before I can stop myself I blurt out, "Oh my god! Halloweentown??? I love Halloweentown!" Then I realize my big bad Marine husband probably would rather gouge his eyes out than watch a kid's movie on the Disney Channel but to my surprise he says, "Halloweentown! Oh wow I remember that movie! Let's watch it!"

Jaw hit floor here.

So that is how my husband and I ended up curled up on the couch watching a classic Disney Channel movie from the era when they were amazing, unlike now. The fact that it came out 12 years ago (1998! wow!) made me feel a bit old. We also have a date for Halloweentown 2 tonight at 8 and I am kinda psyched. (:

Friday Fun

I hung out last night with my friend Jenny, who was in town looking at Grad Schools. I met Jenny when we worked in Disney together and since she lives in Utah it was so great to see her again! It has been about ten months. We went to my favorite Greek restaurant on King St and despite the torrential downpour it was wonderful. The owner and waiters were dancing to the live music, the food was great, plates were broken on the floor, and the owner gave everyone a free glass of dessert wine! YUM.

Ryan has duty tonight :( Boo. Hanging out with Cat after I get my nails done after work. Whew what a sentence. I haven't seen Cat since June! Not cool.

I am so excited for the weekend! No big plans, just general weekend awesomeness and hopefully sun. It is sunny today but SO windy! Oy!

It is Friday! That means it is the MilSpouse weekly round up and Friday Fill In!

1. What is the silliest get-up you have ever worn outside of a Halloween party?

I am an actor by training/trade so I have had a LOT of those...

Just for an example! I have also worn a mascot costume for a minor league baseball team in NJ... hot! Plus my costume for Disney was kinda laughable!

2. What is something that you gave up in order to live the military lifestyle?

I gave it up willingly, but I guess you could say working for Walt Disney World. It was a great job and I loved it, but I do love Ryan more.

3. If money wasn’t a factor and you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be? And why?

Ireland comes to mind first because I want to see the entire country, the moors and the rolling expanse of green and the cliffs... everything. Especially Skerries, where my family is from. I'd also like to go on an African safari and see a wild giraffe!

4. If you were going to join the military, what branch would you join? Or which MOS/rating would you choose?

Between my Poppy and husband I would want to say USMC and do intel or something cool, but I know physically I never would qualify. I teased Ryan recently and said I wanted to join the Coast Guard and his eyes bugged out a little.

5. What is your favorite thing to make for dinner?

I love making chicken fried steak as a special treat. But for a normal dinner I love my stuffed baked mushroom chicken. It is delicious!

And don't forget to join the MilSpouse Weekly Roundup!!! This week it is hosted by Mrs G.I. Joe at ACU's, Stiletto Shoes and Pretty Pink Tutu's!
